Posted 05/06/2007 08:06:51 AM | | After receiving a number calls from Honda racers regarding cylinder heads 160 china whatever, I have a solution to the problem. all that needs to be done is to set a minimum c.c. rule. What this is for you who may not know, is the volume the combustion chamber (the area between the top of the piston and the top of the head) will hold. this is measured will a tool from l.a.d. that takes the place of the sparkplug and a c.c. graduated burette every engine builder should have these tools.
Test procedures: To show you how this would work will say the engine has been set at 14 c.c.limit. install lad tool, rotate engine to about .100 before top dead center insert the burette into the lad tool put in 14 c.c.of marvel oil from the burette
rotate the engine to top dead center,if oil runs over the edge of the tool your motor is not legal. this test is very easy to do it's done a every track, I did it last year at the cal state champs.race.
Why would this help? This would allow racers to do what they want. cut the block, flat top piston, surface the head, change the head to a 160 or a china it wouldn't matter because they would still need to meet the min. c.c. rule. Also racers on a budget(me) could just cut the deck and the head and be done with itno buying of parts.
Things that should be checked at tech.
Bearing must be stock ceramic is not stock
cam must be stock that means no advancing, no twisting to open up lobe sep. no flat topping, no base circle cutting to maintain the same lift with more duration, fan or flywheel cannot be cut. oh by thw way I do have the tools to check all these things, also
carb,bore,stroke,valve type, size and location.
If I see some printed rules I'll start racing Honda again untill then it's open class.
let me know what you think RON Borger#13
